4th Behavior: " Commitment"
The Cornerstone of Leadership- Why keeping Promises Elevates Leaders
Exploring the transformative power of consistency and confidence in Leadership roles
As human beings, recognizing that we create through our words, which have tremendous power, makes us aware that if we are not those words, we will be in trouble. We lose power every time we fail to keep our commitments.
When you were a child, did you have the experience of someone making you a promise and not keeping it? How did you feel? Did that person lose credibility and respect in your eyes?
The impact of non-commitment is incredible! We experience this in our society and business world, and we are going through difficult times because this distinction is not fully understood or applied.
We have seen business empires collapse, scandalous instances of inintegrity withing our governments and in the business world, because many people did not keep their word, and did not keep their commitments to those around them and their citizens.
Northing we create can be whole or sound if it is built on a foundation of non-commitment and non-integrity.
The famous expression " Walking the Talk" is very appropriate. Powerful leaders, those who are respected, who make a difference, and who become role models, always lead by example.
If you are a leader, you cannot ask your peers to commit if you are not willing to BE your own commitments.
If you don't like what's happening around you, examine what you're saying and doing. Do your words and actions support your true intentions?
If the leader is a poor role model, how can they expect their team to be something they aren't? People with integrity and commitment can't work with people who aren't. Eventually they'll leave and choose to work with leaders who are good role models and who master these important qualities.
Good people leave most of the time because of poor leaders who stay in office.
Successful people in life and in organizations, who achieve extraordinary results, " Walk the Talk". They ARE their words. It's the people of integrity who are their commitments. These people make a difference in the lives of many people; they often contribute to creating the good leaders who will take over.
