" When Humanity Loses Its True North: Who Are We Becoming?"
How can we justify that the leaders of certain countries proclaim that some human lives are disposable? That these lives have no value? That these deaths are a small price to pay for their personal glory, to feed their ego and their insatiable thirst for power? Even going so far as to declare that part of their own people is worth less than others, and that they are willing to let them be destroyed, as if it were of no consequence.
How can we, as human beings, not only remain passive or indifferent in the face of the horrors and acts of barbarism occurring in our world, but even accept that some applaud and rejoice at such rhetoric? I wonder whether these same people would applaud and rejoice if these threats were directed at them and their own families.
What has become of our fundamental values: respect, love, dignity, and the acceptance of different cultures that have every right to be different from us, without being our enemy? We all share one common element: we are human beings, born from the same source of life, each part of the same human mosaic. All with distinct colors that together create the beauty of the " WHOLE".
Have we truly progressed, or is the opposite true? Many situations resemble bygone eras; only the weapons and technology have changed. Yet they are used for the same purpose: to destroy anything that does not align with our own beliefs, beliefs we are convinced represent the truth.
Children, whom we responsible adults, are meant to protect. Allowing their lives to be destroyed, deciding their fate even through violence...everything becomes permissible as long it proves that we are right and others are wrong. Wanting to be right, at what cost?
Tolerating, accepting, and worse, voting for dysfunctional and toxic leaders who have no respect for human life makes us complicit. Accepting that such atrocities are committed, even wished upon our fellow human beings, is accepting that they could also be inflicted upon us.
A Universal Law:
" giving and receiving are one". We must be responsible for what we give, because it means we are also ready to receive it.
The golden rule remains the golden rule, a commandment so simple to understand and remember :
" Treat your neighbor as yourself".
